Ever since I came back from Morocco, I have always wanted to show people what to eat in Marrakech. Discovering what to eat there was the highlight of our trip, since both York and I love to eat! Djeemma El-Fna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Marrakech is one of the busiest squares in Africa, filled with exotic food! York and I came here specifically to try the lamb head, snails and other weird things you can’t find else where in the world!
Essaouira: Our Seafood Heaven in Morocco
Essaouira is one of our highlights in Morocco. York and I both love seafood and Essaouira has plenty of them. Essaouira is a small coastal town that became a UNESCO World Heritage listed city in 2001 due to its significance in history and culture. Spain, France, Netherland and England all wanted to take over this place. It is a popular destination for Morrocans to have their honeymoon, however we did not find romance here, we found what we love the most- abundant of fresh, cheap seafood!
Kangaroo Island Day Trip: Penneshaw Farmers’ Market
On this particular Sunday morning, we headed off to Kangaroo Island for its monthly Farmer’s Market at Penneshaw. Kangaroo is the third largest island in Australia and is 112 kilometer south-west of Adelaide. The island is only 13 kilometer away from the mainland. It is one of the most expensive ferry in the world in relation to its distance and cost. SeaLink is the only company that carries passengers across commercially and charges AUD$98 return per person and AUD$188 return per vehicle. Even the locals don’t get much discounts.
Bistro 25 @ Hahndorf, SA
On our lazy Sunday we wanted to try out a Handorf restaurant called Bistro 25. To avoid the crazy Sunday crowd at Handorf we decided to go have dinner at night. Handorf isn’t far from the city being only around 20 min drive up the freeway. We took a nice stroll around the old German town and enjoyed some of the remaining Christmas lights before we arrived at our dinner place. Bistro 25. The bistro is quite small with a handful of tables. The walls of this restaurant are always filled with painted pictures of local artist. Most of them are on sale and the art work on display changes regularly.
Second visit 72 Hours in Paris III – Exploration of the Dead
Paris is suppose to be City of Romance. However this time we decided to do something different. We visited the largest cemetery in Paris- Père Lachaise Cemetery witnessing Parisians can be romantic gestures everywhere they go. We also visited one of the highlights of our trip- The Catacombs of Paris (the largest grave site in the world). 6 million remains, 19 meters below Paris. It was definitely a day of exploring the dead!
Second visit 72 Hours in Paris II- Palace of Versailles
Personally I reckon Palace of Versailles is one of the must-visit for first timers in Paris, together with the Louvre, Arc de triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. Everyone seems to put Notre Dame on the must-see list, however I really don’t think it is that spectacular, there are a lot of other amazing churches in Europe. York was one of those tourists last year, he did not leave the Paris city center and had not heard of Versailles before (shock horror!). I have visited Versailles when I was a kid, I really wanted to show York why this place is so popular!
Second visit 72 Hours in Paris I- The Michelin Experience @ Restaurant Antoine
In a city that is flooded with Michelin Star restaurants, it will be a shame not to visit one. We wanted to eat at a Michelin restaurant preferably one with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Restaurant Antoine seemed to tick all the boxes. It is a 1 starred Michelin restaurant that specializes in seafood which I love. We had a window table that supposedly the best view in the restaurant to see the Eiffel Tower, however I was quite disappointed as the tower was blocked off by the trees (upon further reading it seems like the perfect view of Eiffel Tower is only visible during non-summer months when there are no foliage). Most of the dishes were delicious and the sophisticated taste isn’t something that we could easily replicate in our own kitchen.
Failed day trip to Barossa Valley (Due to no famous wineries)
Barossa Valley is one of the most famous wine regions in Australia. It was a fail day trip since we did not go to any famous wineries. However we did end up trying out a few food places and experience the fresh produce provided by South Australia.
The Market Shed on Holland @ Adelaide, South Australia
The Market Shed on Holland near South Terrace is a Sunday Market that opens every Sunday from 9am-3pm. This Sunday market focuses on certified organic, sustainable local produce. There were many stalls selling freshly picked fruits and vegetables from local areas. it is also a great place to have breakfast & brunch with your families and friends as the place is packed with different organic food stores.
World’s highest White Water Rafting at Rotorua (7 meters!)
White water rafting is one of the must-do experiences when you visit Rotorua– a town 3 hours drive away from Auckland. This town is action central, packed with adrenaline-rushed activities. We choose colorado river rafting since it was only 15 minute drive from central town. As usual we booked our trip from Bookme, which gave […]
