Calling 112 In Icelandic Mountains

2017-10-26 by York Chiang Leave a Comment

Mt. Bjólfur 塞濟斯菲厄澤 seydisfjordur

Walking through the dense fog in the Icelandic mountains looking for our friend Andy. We have not seen him for more than 3 hours and my voice is getting hoarse from yelling his name. The weather is getting colder by the hour and my glasses are now constantly cloudy due to the humidity. As the fog begins to thicken, I can see no more than 10 meters ahead. The sun will set soon and we do not even know where he is! This was the day that we called the emergency rescue team in Iceland.

pan's labyrinth 羊男的迷宮 Quinta Da Regaleira 雷加萊拉宮

After walking through a secret tunnel, we arrived at the middle of the spiral staircase underground. It was a mysterious place that we thought only existed in fairy tales. Looking up we could see the perfect circular skylight dimly illuminating the artistic spiral that spans from the top to bottom. This was the most anticipated place for us to see in Quintra Da Regaleira in Sintra, Portugal.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon 冰河湖

We did our glacier hike in Skaftafell National Park, a place that holds the largest ice deposit in Iceland. The company we went with, Glacier Guides, hikes the Falljökull Glacier. Falljökull Glacier has a glacier that has a spectacular ice fall, something that is equivalent to a waterfall for a glacier. The journey up Falljökull Glacier was an adventurous one!

冰島 極光 iceland northern light aurora

We have just finished our 15 day trip in Iceland and want to share some of our experiences on how to find and take pictures of the Northern Lights. Spotting the Northern lights can be a little difficult if you have not seen one with your eyes before. Usually the Northern Light appears significantly different to our naked eyes compared to what can be captured on the camera.

Favela Walking Tour- A Visit to Rio de Janeiro’s Slum

2016-06-16 by York Chiang Leave a Comment

In the heart of the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro, I found myself walking down a flight of steps closer and closer to a revolting stench of open sewers. The ground was full of rubbish and there were many dog shits on the path that I had to avoid. The streets were winding down at random directions and buildings were built extremely close with no fresh air.
