Coal Cellar + Grill is a new restaurant opened in Hilton Adelaide recently. As the name suggested, Coal Cellar + Grill serves a lot of grill meat and uses many traditional Australia native ingredients. However We decided that the mains they serve looked more quite unique and we thought we might give the Grill a miss this time. We ordered four different entrées and three different types of mains.
Ramen & Izakaya Himeji @ Adelaide, SA
Ramen & Izakaya Himeji is opened by the same owners as Genki Japanese restaurant, the only restaurant that makes half decent ramen in Adelaide, so we had really high expectations for it. Almost as soon as Ramen & Izakaya Himeji was open for business, we made a reservation and we popped in for lunch.
Mexican Society of Chinatown @ Adelaide. SA
Mexican Society of Chinatown is a new establishment opened by the same owners of Hispanic Mechanic. It is meant to be a Mexican & Chinese fusion restaurant, which is an interesting concept.
What to eat in Istanbul? (Desserts & Street Food)
Before visiting Turkey, the only Turkish food I knew were Kebab and Pide (Turkish Pizza). After researching on what to eat in Istanbul, I have discovered a wide variety of food that Turkey has to offer. Below is a list of what to eat in Istanbul and in order of what I think is MUST-EAT as it is probably quite hard to find outside this country. Although I did not realize most are desserts!
Ali Muhiddin Haci Bekir @ Istanbul, Turkey
I must admit Turkish Delights were never my thing. They were just pink, soft sweets with pungent artificial rose smell. It wasn’t until we made our way to the original store that invented Turkish Delights “Haci Bekir”. That’s when I feel in love with these sweets.
Karakoy Gulluoglu (Baklava) @ Istanbul, Turkey
The best baklava in Istanbul is at Karakoy Gulluoglu- a company that has been opened since 1820. They only have one store in Istanbul, which says a lot about their quality. The location is near Galata bridge which is a pleasant walk after a visit after Galata Tower in Beyoglu.
Mayflower Restaurant & Bar in Mayfair Hotel
For my 26th birthday, my family and I decided to go Mayfair Hotel’s restaurant Mayflower for celebrations. Mayfair Hotel is located on King William Street between Curry Street and Hindley Street. The parking was difficult but they do have a discount for guests staying at the hotel to park at Wilson car park for AUD$18 for 24hrs.
The Sugar Club (Auckland, New Zealand)
The Sugar Club is the fourth restaurant opened by Peter Gordon who is a famous New Zealand-born, London-based chef. The restaurant is located on Level 53 of Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower. The restaurant itself does not rotate like the restaurant “Orbit” which is a level below. There is also complimentary valet parking for people who dines at the restaurant in the car park below. I reckon this is the must-go restaurants for any tourists who wants to dine with a view!
The Grove Restaurant (Auckland, New Zealand)
The Grove Restaurant is the winner of 2014 “Restaurant of the year” in Auckland. After leaving Auckland for 18 months, my friends and I decided to catch up over some fine dining. The Grove Restaurant is next to the newly renovated historic St Patrick’s Cathedral, the square is quite quiet on a Thursday night, giving a serene ambiance.
Mocan & Green Grout- Espresso Bar (Canberra, Australia)
Due to my recent obsession of eating organic & fresh ingredients, York has found this little cafe in New Action- an area in Canberra near Lake Burley Griffin. Mocan & Green Grout does not take bookings and we arrived there on a busy Sunday afternoon. To our surprise it didn’t take too long for us to get a table. There were many people waiting outside for takeaway coffees, tables and chairs were provided with blankets if you find Canberra winter too chilly.
